The other day I had the pleasure of seeing some industrial stretch wrap machines for the first time. This may not seem very exciting to you but I like to see good machinery in action and think about how it benefits our lives in ways that we don’t even realize. This is an easy one – think about this: pretty much everything you see in stores is shipped by train or by truck. And the majority of things shipped this way are shipped on pallets. If you’re not familiar with what a pallet is, it’s that wooden platform that they stack boxes on. The pallet has holes by which a forklift can easily pick it up. But here’s the challenge: how do you keep things from falling off these pallets? I mean, you have boxes stacked 5 feet high being shipped on trains and trucks. It doesn’t take many bumps to knock those boxes off balance. The simplest solution is to wrap them in shrink wrap. The shrink wrap keeps the boxes stacked tightly together and also keeps them attached to the pallet. It’s a simple solution to a common problem, and that’s why it’s so important that everyone involved in packaging equipment has the ability to wrap pallets efficiently.

stretch wrap machine

So that’s where stretch wrap machines come in. Many years ago, I had a job in which I actually had to wrap pallets with shrink wrap. I had to do it manually, so just imagine what that requires. I held a large roll of plastic wrap tightly as I walked around the pallet tens of times, gradually working from the base of the pallet all the way up to the top of the stack of boxes. It’s time consuming, it’s frustrating because the boxes always keep shifting, and your arms get tired after you do a couple of these things. Not to mention you have to keep bending down and back up and back down, and so on. It’s just not efficient and it’s a waste of man hours. For this reason, automatic stretch wrap machines were invented. With a stretch wrap machine, you just set the pallet on the platform of the machine and you tell it to wrap. The platform spins around and the machine wraps it tightly. It’s great. Once your pallets are wrapped (while you’re doing something else productive) you just call up your Baltimore movers and they’ll bring a truck to pick up everything you need to ship. It’s that simple.

So, back to my original point. Now that you know what stretch wrap machines are and why they’re necessary, you can see how they affect our lives in significant ways. All of the stuff we buy and use is shipped. Most of it came on stretch-wrapped pallets. And most of those pallets were wrapped by stretch wrap machines. If people had to do it manually, the costs of our goods would increase substantially and there would be less productivity in shipping in general.

I haven’t been to the Carolinas in a while, but last time I was there it was very nice. The weather is pretty nice, there’s a good coast and there’s ample nature scenery. Not a bad place at all. Oh, mountains too. It’s always nice to have mountains on the horizon. Would I want to move to North Carolina? Maybe, I suppose. Charlotte is a cool city and I wouldn’t mind living there. But I’m not calling up those Charlotte movers quite yet. South Carolina has its perks too. For one thing, it’s a little warmer and I like a warm climate very much. It may be a little too far south for me though so if I had to pick one I’d choose North Carolina. I mean, I’m a college basketball fan and it doesn’t get much better than being able to go over to the Duke campus whenever I want. So maybe it’s the Raleigh movers I would want to call up, since that’s close to Chapel Hill.

Then again, if I’m really looking to relive those college days, I’d probably be more interested in a more college town feel like Winston-Salem. Not that I’d want to live right there, but they have 2 universities in that area so if I lived nearby I’d be able to visit. In that case, Greensboro movers would be the ones to contact. In any case, I’ll really consider it seriously next time I want a change of pace and a change of scenery. Also I hear the economy is doing okay over there. Boeing is opening a huge new plant there and that’s going to create a lot of jobs and tax revenue. So it’s a good place to consider.

New England is a beautiful place and as a result there are a lot of people who live there. It’s also a pretty small area, so state lines don’t mean much. For example, you can get Maine movers to do a household move in New Hampshire because they’re so close together that you don’t need to look specifically for movers Concord NH. At the same time, New England could be a complicated place when you’re driving around. There are a lot of rivers, hills, islands, peninsulas, isthmuses and so on. This makes the roads a bit difficult to navigate sometimes, especially for a large truck. So if you’re movers Lawrence MA and you’re driving around up and down the coast in your big North American Van Lines truck, you may run into some snags. In fact, I bet there are some roads where these trucks simply can’t go. It would probably cost you more to move to a place that’s inaccessible by a truck because people would have to carry your stuff manually. Or maybe they’d get some smaller vans if the roads leading up to your new house are driveable, the way I saw movers Lewiston ME do it once.

And let’s not forget the weather. In the summer it is quite pleasant, but in the autumn New England is known for its leaves. The leaves are pretty to look at, but they go absolutely everywhere and can often obscure your view of the road. If you’re driving, this could be very dangerous. If you’re driving a huge semi-trailer, it’s even more dangerous. Anyone at movers Nashua NH knows this, and that’s why they’re very careful while driving at all times. It’s one of the things that a moving truck driver has to be very skilled at, and also one of those things we don’t really think much about. But really, think about how difficult it must be for movers Auburn ME to drive that massive vehicle through the snow and ice that covers the New England roads in the winter. It’s difficult enough to drive our sedans through a snowstorm, navigating the hills and valleys ever so carefully. So it must take a great amount of skill for office movers Boston to drive through these natural hazards as well. Just thinking about it makes me very glad that I am not a truck driver. There are lots of other occupations you could take up if you’re not a very skilled driver. But I do think it’s important to take a moment and appreciate the skill and effort that these moving truck drivers put into the job. After all, if the drivers at movers Worcester MA weren’t so good at what they do, your household belongings would never arrive at their destination.

Here’s a topic that is straight out of the blue. One of those things that just pops into your mind as you’re going about your day, catches your attention, and makes you wonder about it until you’ve looked it up or made some sort of conclusion. So, whenever I’m downtown in any major city I always see cranes overhead, working on a new building or repairing a part of a building. Those cranes are usually unbelievable tall. How do they even get them there? I have never seen a 300 foot tall crane just rolling down the freeway, you know? Do they even have wheels? Maybe they fold up somehow and are transported on flatbeds of trucks. I can picture that. In fact, now that I think of it I think I may have seen the cabins of cranes transported on semi trailers.

But anyway, that’s not what I was wondering about earlier today. I started thinking… those cranes are very tall and they are used to transport heavy loads through the air. If one of them makes a mistake or has some sort of defect, the results could be catastrophic. Just imagine if the cable snaps and that heavy payload comes crashing down from 200 feet. Or if the operator makes a wrong move and the payload slams into the side of an office building. It’s really a precarious situation, so I figure it must be critical for any responsible crane service to have some sort of safeguards against these sorts of accidents. They probably need to have a crane inspection very often just to make sure everything is in working order and doesn’t need repairs. I assume crane repairs are costly, but not as costly as the potentially tragic accidents that could occur if needed repairs are not made. So there must be companies out there that perform crane inspections and crane repairs. Maybe companies that specialize in cranes? Though also I think it’s likely that the crane manufacturers would also provide some level of service since they probably know this machinery best.

Also, this popped into my mind as well. Have you ever been driving past one of those rarely used railroad tracks and seen huge railroad gear on them that looks like a truck of some sort? Something like this:

Hi Rail gear system

Well, I don’t know what these rail gear systems are actually for but they’re pretty cool. They’re like trucks that could go on both road and rail. I suppose that’s useful for carrying large loads by road and rail easily. For example, I’ve seen these things going into a coal power plant, so I suppose it’s the best solution for transporting something like that.

Ah, Texas. One of the biggest states we have. Everything is far apart and takes a long time to get to if you’re driving. So what do you do if you’re moving from Houston to Dallas? Do you look for Houston movers or Dallas movers? Or maybe even Austin movers since Austin is kind of in the middle? Well, no, Austin isn’t really in the middle but kind of over to the side. But still, it’s a 4 hour drive from Houston to Dallas so how do you know if a moving company will even be willing to drive that far? Say you get Houston movers to move your household goods to Dallas. Now they have an empty truck and they’re 4 hours from home. They probably don’t like doing that.

One thing is for certain. You’re not going to do the move on your own. Can you imagine having to make 2 trips? That’s 12 hours on the road, plus who knows how many hours for packing and unpacking. Hiring movers is definitely the way to go, unless you have some good friends with trucks who are willing to drive 4 hours each way to help you out. Not that it’s hard to find a truck in Texas. Anyway, just saying.

Anyone who has ever been to Miami knows that it’s the kind of place you don’t want to leave. They have warm weather, nice beaches, great music, superb golfing, friendly people and a whole lot of other things that will make you want to stay. So, you may ask, why would you even talk about Miami moving companies? Well, I’m sure that some people do choose to move out of Miami for whatever crazy reasons they might have, but the reason all those Miami movers are needed is to move people in to Miami! That’s right, more and more people are moving into the city all the time. And to move in, you need a Miami mover to move you in. So you see, it makes sense.

I’ve only been to Miami once and it was only for a couple days but it was a good time. Due to the heat, I imagine it would be fairly uncomfortable to perform a move. And with the heavy traffic it would definitely take a while for a truck to get through to wherever it’s going. In fact, I wonder if there are more moves in the winter when the weather is cooler and more comfortable for heavy lifting. In any case, I’m sure the professional moving companies Miami are experienced with handling the many obstacles that arise due to the climate and other conditions. Perhaps they know some more efficient back ways to avoid the traffic, or maybe just the best times of the day to be on the road.

I also just realized that since Miami is not the only nice area in Florida, there are certainly people who move in and out of Miami from other nice places like Fort Lauderdale or Clearwater. I guess if you think about it, it really doesn’t matter what their reasons are. The fact is that people in Miami need moving companies and moving companies exist there to serve those people. Just like they do almost everywhere else.

Seems like I’m on the subject of moving companies lately. That’s cool, because I always have something to say about them. Whether it’s Vancouver moving companies or Calgary moving companies, there is always a lot I could talk about. The thing is, moving is really not that complicated in concept. You pack all your things in a truck, you drive to your new place, and then you take them out of the truck and into your home. Simple, right?  It would seem so. But there are many things that could go wrong in the process and that means there are many things you have to do during the process to make sure nothing goes wrong.

For example: whenever you are moving glass, such as a shower door, you run the risk of breaking it. So there are a few things you can keep in mind if you’re moving glass. First, you have to plan your route so that you know exactly which way you’re going with the glass and how you’re going to get it out of your house and into the truck, and vice versa. If there are a lot of turns, and it’s a big piece of glass, you have to make sure you know where all the turns and corners are or you’ll inevitably make a turn that bumps the glass against a corner. And of course you have to have a suitable surface for setting it down or leaning it against a wall. Since glass can’t support its own weight, you have to carry it upright with gloves that have rubber coated palms, if you have them. If it’s too heavy to carry, use a glass dolly.

It’s not everyday you move your household and it’s not everyday you carry a large piece of glass, but sooner or later the time comes for those things and it’s important to know what to do. Good Vancouver movers always know how to handle any household item, and even rare or especially heavy items. In fact, any good moving company’s staff should know how to handle any type of item. It takes experience, but so does being good at anything.

Let’s talk about Pittsburgh moving companies. “What is there to talk about?” you ask. Well, for one thing, there are a lot of them. I mean A LOT. Just do a search for “moving companies Pittsburgh” and you’ll see over 12 million results on Google. Twelve million. That is a lot of moving companies. Granted, not all the results are different moving companies. It would be absolutely ridiculous if there were even a million Pittsburgh movers. The city would be overrun with them!

But anyway, back to my point. There are a lot of movers in Pittsburgh so let’s talk about them. What’s one of the first things you look for in a mover? Proximity to your residence, probably. Right? Okay so when I’m just looking at my Google search for “moving companies Pittsburgh” there are a bunch of dots on the map showing me where the movers are located. They’re all over the place – a whole bunch in Pittsburgh, a couple in Wilkinsburg, Whitehall, Baldwin, Mt. Lebanon, East Allegheny, and so on. So really the entire Pittsburgh area is covered, and I’m sure that any of these moving companies would be willing to do a local move anywhere in the area. Which would mean that this 6 square mile area is covered by maybe 20 moving companies. That’s a lot of moving trucks driving around Pittsburgh! If you’re looking for a mover, you’d have to be blind not to find one. You could probably go outside in Pittsburgh, close your eyes, twirl around, face a random direction, open your eyes, and you’d probably see a moving truck somewhere in your field of view. (Edit: I actually tried doing this later and I did not see one, but as I was walking away disappointed, a George Moving truck drove by so I think the point still stands.)

Of course, there are other factors you should look for besides proximity, but with all these choices it seems like you wouldn’t have a very hard time finding some good, professional, insured and bonded moving companies and then compare quotes from a handful of them. That is how you go about choosing a mover, isn’t it?

We often don’t realize how much work goes into creating the world that we currently live in. In order for our cities, buildings, roads and other public areas to function properly, there is a tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes. Much of this work is done by industrial pumps. This is something I hadn’t thought about until recently. For example, when there is a flood, teams of workers spend days cleaning it up. But how do they get rid of all that water? Water normally runs off our roads into sewers or nearby ditches. But when the sewer system is full, the water has nowhere to go. It floods our roads, making the inaccessible. So how do we get rid of this water? Industrial pumps. There is really no other way to get rid of it but to pump it out.
http://img1.tradeget.com/machinesandmetals%5C7A9XGFYQ1industrial_pumps.jpgAnother example of where they’re used is ponds. There are a lot of man made ponds all over the place, and for fish and other creatures to live in them, the water needs to be fairly clean. Since ponds really have no current or water exchange, submersible pumps are used to maintain the water quality. These are just a couple examples but pumps are not only used in water. They can be used in pretty much any situation. There are pumps for chemicals, epoxies and even air. Industrial pumps are just another one of those things that we rarely realize are behind the scenes, unless we actually work with them on a daily basis. Which most of us don’t.
