Fall milfold removal project on Messalonskee Lake
The Oakland Messalonskee Lake is filled with the milfold water plant. It will take days to remove the green invasive plant from the silty bottom of the lake.
Brian Michauld is the man that makes the magic happen. With his uniform of a wetsuit, oxygen tank, goggles, and his trusty water suction hose Michauld dives into the lake to take care of business. His mission is the remove as much of the milford plant from the bottom of Messalonskee Lake.
Milford is a long plant that grows in feather like structure. They stream all the way to the water surface where they then fan out and take up all the water surface. This leads to crowding out of other plants and makes swimming very difficult.
